Lee “Scratch” Perry
The legendary Lee “Scratch” Perry is perhaps as well-known for his eccentric persona as for his music. Stories about Perry—who is reportedly also a shaman—range from the bizarre to the very bizarre, including rumors that he’s brought a loaded gun onstage and may have burned down his own recording studio. And still, he found time to launch himself to international music-legend status through (among other feats) producing Bob Marley and the Wailers, helping invent the genre of dub music, and continuing to make an amazing amount of tripped-out reggae and dub tracks of his own.
